The Book of Jonah in Religious and Literary Examining Rooms - the Poking Continues, the Diagnoses Keep Changing

This romp through literary theory and through the changing reception of the Book of Jonah by Jews and Christians is worth reading even though it perhaps too specific in subject. After all, many may doubt the merits of reading the latest take in centuries of commentary on a four-page "book." Among striking asides by the author is the observation that the "universalism" of the European Enlightenment was exclusionary toward Jews. While much has been written about the Book of Jonah since "A Biblical Text" was published in 2000, it deserves to go back into print.
